Titanium Grade 1
UNS R50250 EN / W.Nr. 3.7025
The softest, most formable titanium — deepest drawing and best corrosion resistance of the CP grades. Plate heat-exchanger plates, anodes, explosive clad and lining work.
Titanium Grades 1, 2, 5, 7, 9 and 12 as plate, sheet, condenser tube, pipe, bar, forgings and fasteners — the standard answer to seawater and chloride-bearing chemical corrosion at half the weight of steel.
Titanium forms a thin, self-healing oxide film that makes it effectively immune to seawater, wet chlorine, chlorides and most oxidising media — with a density of 4.5 g/cm³, roughly half that of steel and nickel alloys. Commercially pure Grade 2 is the workhorse of chemical and power-plant tubing; Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) supplies aerospace-level strength; Grade 7 (Pd-bearing) handles reducing acids and crevice corrosion; Grade 12 is the economical upgrade of Grade 2.
We supply titanium to ASTM B265 / B338 / B861 / B348 with ASME code-cased equivalents for pressure-vessel work. All material ships with heat-traceable chemistry and mechanical test certificates.
The grades below are the ones most often asked for. Each grade stays on this page — the material-first way to browse.
UNS R50250 EN / W.Nr. 3.7025
The softest, most formable titanium — deepest drawing and best corrosion resistance of the CP grades. Plate heat-exchanger plates, anodes, explosive clad and lining work.
UNS R50400 EN / W.Nr. 3.7035
The workhorse CP titanium — the optimum of strength, formability and weldability. Condenser and heat-exchanger tubing, process vessel linings, pipework and fasteners in chemical and marine duty.
UNS R56400 EN / W.Nr. 3.7165
The most specified titanium alloy — aerospace-grade strength with good fatigue performance. Airframe and engine parts, high-strength fasteners, forgings, medical implants and performance engineering.
UNS R52400 EN / W.Nr. 3.7235
Grade 2 with a small palladium addition — the top titanium for reducing acids (hot MgCl₂, dilute HCl/H₂SO₄) and crevice corrosion. Where Grade 2 pits, Grade 7 survives.
UNS R53400 EN / W.Nr. 3.7105
Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni — an economical alternative to Grade 7 with better high-temperature strength. Shell-and-tube exchangers and vessels in chemical plant where crevice corrosion is a risk.
UNS R56320
Ti-3Al-2.5V — an intermediate-strength alloy between Grade 2 and Grade 5 with excellent cold formability. The standard alloy for aerospace hydraulic tubing and bicycle frame tube, and a weight-saving choice for high-pressure fluid lines.

Titanium is supplied to ASTM specifications with ASME Section II code-cased equivalents (SB-265 etc.) for pressure-vessel use. Every lot ships with heat-number traceability, chemical analysis and mechanical test reports (EN 10204 Type 3.1; Type 3.2 where the order requires). Hydrogen content is controlled and reported — the embrittlement risk in titanium.
Grade 2 is chosen for corrosion resistance and formability at moderate strength — tubing, vessels, linings. Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) is chosen where strength-to-weight matters — fasteners, shafts, aerospace parts. If the service is corrosive but not highly stressed, Grade 2 is the economical default.
It forms a stable, self-healing oxide film that regrows instantly if scratched. That film is immune to seawater, wet chlorine and oxidising chlorides at temperatures where stainless steels pit and crevice-corrode.
In reducing acids (hot concentrated MgCl₂, dilute HCl/H₂SO₄) and tight crevices, plain CP titanium can attack. The palladium in Grade 7 (or Mo/Ni in Grade 12) extends resistance to those conditions.
Yes — CP grades weld readily by TIG with careful inert-gas shielding; the weld must stay protected from air until below ~400 °C or it embrittles. Grade 5 is weldable with more attention to filler and technique. We can advise per joint and standard.
Per kilogram it is more expensive, but per installed lifetime in chloride service it often wins: condenser tubing in titanium routinely outlives multiple sets of stainless or CuNi tubes. Our calculators give the weight — and the weight saving is another 40–45% versus steel.
