Sheet & Plate Weight Calculator
Theoretical weight of sheets and plates from length, width, thickness and material — per piece, per square metre and in total, with PDF and email options.
Theoretical weight from nominal dimensions and the indicative family density. Per-m² weight is simply thickness × density / 1000 — the number buyers use to price sheet by area. Inputs can be entered in mm or in.
Accuracy disclaimer: theoretical weights from nominal dimensions and indicative family densities. Actual pieces vary within manufacturing tolerances and the actual chemistry of the melt. Use results for estimation, freight planning and budgeting only — purchase and invoicing use the actual weighed figures and the EN 10204 mill test certificate for the lot.
How It Works
A plate is a rectangular prism: volume = L × W × T in mm³. Multiplied by density (kg/m³) and divided by 10⁹ (mm³ → m³) that is the piece weight in kilograms. The calculator also shows the weight per square metre — thickness (mm) × density ÷ 1000 — which is how sheet and plate are commonly priced and compared across gauges.
Standard mill sizes vary by producer and specification; enter the size you actually want, or use your cutting list dimensions for fabricated plate.
Sheet vs Plate
Trade convention calls thin flat product sheet (roughly under 3–5 mm, often coil-sourced) and heavier flat product plate. The physics here is identical — the same calculator serves both. For coil, calculate per strip length using the width and thickness; for chequered plate the pattern adds thickness that this nominal calculation does not include, so allow an uplift from the specification.
